Second Attempt?
If you didn’t manage to mix the alginate in time on your first attempt, we’ve got some helpful tips to help you get it right this time:
Use an Electric Mixer
It is essential that when you mix the powder, you use an electric mixer as mentioned in the instructions. If you use an electric mixer, it is much easier to get the alginate mixed in time.
Get a Helper
When mixing the alginate, you only have 60 seconds to mix until the liquid begins to solidify, so if you have a helper who is able to assist in pouring in your bags whilst you mix, this can really help. Use the fastest setting on your electric mixer too.
Look out for the Colour Change
Make sure you mix until the white powder has been mixed in, but do pay attention to the colour change. If the alginate is getting lighter, you don’t have long to go. It’s best to practice your position with the family first, so you are all able to put your hands in as soon as the mix is ready.
Use a Timer
Try using a stopwatch or timer, as the 60 seconds can go very quickly, so preparation is key.
Use Cold Water
If you had trouble with the setting time before, use cold water to allow yourself as much time as possible to get your hands in.
